Concrete Repair & Surface Prep

The Most Important Step No One Talks About.

Surface preparation is the foundation of every durable floor coating. It doesn’t
matter how good the coating material is — if it goes over a compromised or
contaminated surface, it will fail. 80% of coating failures are caused by
inadequate prep, not material failure. We start right.

What We Do

Complete Surface Preparation.

Diamond Grinding — Indoor Surfaces

Our primary interior prep method — and the industry standard.

The industry standard for interior epoxy and coating installations. Industrial-grade diamond grinders create a mechanical surface profile — allowing coatings to bond at depth rather than simply adhering to the surface. Also removes surface laitance, contamination, and previous coatings. We use industrial-grade equipment — not handheld angle grinders — with HEPA-filtered dust containment.

Pressure Washing — Outdoor Surfaces

Exterior decorative concrete prep.

For exterior decorative concrete applications — patios, pool decks, driveways, walkways — we prepare existing surfaces through thorough pressure washing. This cleans the surface and opens the pores for proper product adhesion before any overlay, stamped system, or sealer is applied.

Crack Repair

Every crack is assessed before we touch it.

We assess all cracks during every pre-installation evaluation. Concerning cracks are cleaned out and welded together using a two-part crack fill epoxy and quartz mixture — creating a rigid, bonded repair that accepts coatings just like the surrounding slab. Active or moving cracks require a different approach — we explain all options and tradeoffs honestly before any work begins.

Bond Coat Application

The bridge between slab and decorative system.

For decorative concrete systems, one to two Bond Coats of Elite Crete Systems Thin-Finish are applied to the prepared surface. This bonds the new system to the pores of the existing slab and fills minor imperfections — a step critical to long-term adhesion for stamped overlays, Micro Finish, and all decorative concrete applications.

Texture Pave Patching

Major imperfections, fully restored.

Major surface imperfections — deep spalls, aggregate exposure, previous repair failures — are patched with Elite Crete Systems Texture Pave. This polymer-modified repair material bonds to existing concrete and accepts the decorative system on top exactly like the surrounding slab.

Spall Repair

Surface breakout, restored to a coatable state.

Concrete spalling — surface breakout from freeze-thaw damage, corrosion, or impact — is repaired with polymer-modified repair mortars that bond to existing concrete and accept coatings like the surrounding slab.

Joint Treatment

Movement honored — never bridged.

Control and expansion joints require specific treatment — either honored through the system or filled with semi-rigid material that allows for movement. Bridging joints with rigid coating causes cracking every time.

Moisture Assessment & Mitigation

Tested before every install — not assumed.

Moisture vapor transmission (MVT) is one of the most common causes of coating failure. We test for MVT before every project. When elevated levels are found, we apply a moisture vapor barrier primer before any topcoat system goes down.

Of Coating Failures Are Caused By Inadequate Surface Prep

Not the coating. Not the brand. The prep. That’s why we treat surface preparation as a standalone discipline — not something rushed through in the first hour of install day.

Been Burned Before?

If Your Last Coating Peeled, Here's Why.

If you’ve had a coating fail — peel, bubble, or delaminate — the cause is almost certainly in the surface prep. We assess all existing conditions, identify the root cause of any previous failure, and recommend the right remediation approach before any new material goes down.
